January 7, 2024. At their Boston office, high-growth tech company Bynder’s outdated and slow-moving water dispenser left employees frustrated with lukewarm drinks and long lines. Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, the company’s San Carlos office had no such issue thanks to a nifty new amenity: a Bevi machine. Boston employees visited the San Carlos office and vice versa. Word got around. Boston was due for an upgrade.
The Challenge: Keeping it cool
- Bynder’s Boston office relied on a small, plumbed water dispenser to serve hot and cold water to 135 employees.
- Owning a no-frills, middle-of-the-road water dispenser came with a lot of challenges. For one thing, it broke down a lot, meaning the Bynder facilities team had their hands full with repairs.
- For another, what was supposed to be cold water came out at room temperature. You also had to leave the tap running for over a minute to get the hot water actually hot. No one was exactly thrilled.
The Fix: Reading the room at Bynder office
- Replacing the old water dispenser with a Bevi water dispenser instantly solved beverage temperature issues.
- A Bevi machine is designed to pour beverages at the perfect temperature—a crisp 36 to 39°F for cold water, or an optimal 185 to 195°F for hot water—every time. There’s a setting for room temperature water, too, if that’s how you roll. (We respect it!)
- Plus, since the Bevi machines use commercial-grade filters, it can keep beverages flowing quickly. That means less waiting around, happier (and better hydrated) employees, as well as a more productive work environment. Everybody wins.
The Victory Dance: Beverages with a real zing to them
- After installing the Bevi machine, Bynder’s Boston office manager Sam Pond shared, “We’ve definitely seen a decrease in plastic bottle use overall.” The machine’s real-time counter shows how many bottles and cans the office has saved, giving employees a clear reason to keep making greener choices.
- Also, the Bevi machine’s ability to add functional ingredients—its Electrolytes and Vitamin Boost—to beverages at any time has also replaced the need for single-use plastic dietary supplement packets. “It’s much more convenient to just touch a screen to inject some electrolytes or extra vitamins than it is to mix in a packet,” Pond said, appreciating the added benefit of cutting down on even more waste.
- Even better, the Bevi machine brought employees together. It became a spot for casual quick chats, whether about work, personal lives, or the simple joys of enjoying water that’s perfectly cold or perfectly hot. As Pond put it, “A water cooler conversation about a water cooler.”
